Elaine Lipka and the fight against terrorism

Elaine Xydis Lipka

For more than 25 years, Elaine Xydis Lipka has been a special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigations. This prestigious crime investigation organization within the United States tackles a variety of national and global issues, including the fight against terrorism. In Lipka’s work with the FBI, which started in 1991, this fight has been paramount and central.

Lipka is currently a special agent with the FBI specializing and focusing on counterterrorism on a domestic and international level. It is her responsibility in this role to help identify criminal offenders and collect applicable evidence leading to their arrest and their conviction for criminal activity. She’s been a member of the Joint Terrorism Task Force, a multi-agency group of investigators, as well as been part of the Evidence Response Team. Lipka directly gathers intelligence on suspicious criminal activities, conducts interviews and documents investigative results via detailed reports.

Within this sphere of domestic terrorism, Elaine Lipka was the lead FBI agent for a national investigation into violent crimes enacted against abortion providers. This occurred in the 1990s. Lipka and her team were directed by then-U.S. Attorney Janet Reno to investigate the potential for conspiracy against abortion providers and bring these terrorist behaviors to an end.
